The Project

The Retrospective-Prospective Essay

The Retrospective Analysis Essay of the Presentation Essay.

In this essay, I will discus my understanding or 2 key features of critical inquiry writing.

I will also use my presentation essay as a representative example to analyze and discuss that extend to which my essay demonstrated features that I added commentary for.

The retrospective essay will also point to two revisions that I made throughout the drafting of my presentation essay.

The Presentation Essay

This essay is based upon a critical inquiry question, questioning a specific space that we occupy and belong to. My presentation essay is based on the Christian College ministry: "Ekklesia". Ekklesia is a unique place where I have spent time with my peers, learning about Jesus and the Christian faith.

I chose to explore and analyze this place based on my rich history of growing up in a traditional Christian church.

Unlike a traditional church setting, Ekklesia focuses on contemporary practices, and I argue in this piece that the contemporary and progressive choices are an excellent tool at attracting college students into the congregation.

This final visual portfolio is the culmination of a ten week course focusing on the genres of spaces we occupy and belong to.

The portfolio demonstrates my knowledge, participation, and skill that I have aquiered and learned throughout English 101.

It is my hope that this visual portfolio allows you to be guided through, and introduced to, various academic artifacts. through unique design elements. These artifacts highlight my work in the afformentioned course, as well as personal pieces that I have written and constructed.

Design Decisions

In my opinion, Aesthetic is completely necessary to creating an appealing portfolio.

It was vital that throughout my whole portfolio, I chose design elements that had rich contrast, and were visually astounding.

I chose black backgrounds to create a bold platform, and used mustard yellow to create an inviting aspect.

the Author

Say "howdy" to Shelby Payne, a Sociology and Communications Studies student at Western Washington University.

Although Bellingham is her current place of residence, she is very lucky to call many places "home". Traveling is a frequent activity, and the word "exploration" brings her excitement to a new level- especially when her camera is in hand.

She was raised in Olympia, WA and her passion for social justice and community development stems from her family's involvement in the beautiful Capital city.

While many things easily amuse her, she enjoys writing + rambling about religion, politics, traveling, and her less than dazzling love life.
